Bardelli’s, an Italian restaurant in Kenilworth, is urging the public to continue ordering pizzas and pastas from the restaurant’s Xpress store after a fire early on Sunday.
The restaurant’s kitchen area and roof void were completely gutted, according to the City’s Fire and Rescue Service spokesman, Jermaine Carelse, who said fire crews from Ottery, Lakeside and Wynberg managed to contain the fire to the kitchen area.
The fire was extinguished before 4am.
Most of the damage was restricted to the kitchen while the rest of the building suffered smoke and heat damage, he said.
“The cause of the fire is unknown, pending investigation.”
Bardelli’s spokesperson, Antoinette Lassen, said: “Every effort is being made to keep the staff employed. A plan has been implemented to move staff to the Bardelli’s Xpress Store to get this smaller takeaway business operating for extended trading hours, offering a bigger menu selection as well as some great specials.”
Bardelli’s Xpress is located at 9 Rosmead Ave.
Bardelli’s owner Grant Hawkins thanked the community for their support
“We have seen a massive expression of assistance from the community, the same community that voted us third in SA for our pizza. We know that this is only a temporary setback, and it won’t be long until we reopen to serve delicious food to all our loyal customers.”
