Ward 59 councillor Mikhail Manuel took steps to upgrade Rondebosch Park and the surrounding areas in the community towards the end of last year.
Mr Manuel through his ward allocation budget of R730 000 installed an outside gym, new benches and new bins, taking out the broken benches and bins. He says there is still one piece of gym equipment that needs to be installed, and he wants to upgrade the pathways at the park.
“The park located in Campground Road is a popular market location and the closest community park in the area, so we want it to look neat with more activities that attract people to use it.”
Mr Manuel has also been working on improving the standard of the Rondebosch subways. Four of the five subways in Rondebosch had been painted, had new lights installed and were cleaned regularly, he said.
R400 000 had been spent to improve the standards of the subway last year, he said.
Mr Manuel said one of his big goals for the year was to work on the improvement of the Rondebosch business district between the Baxter Theatre and the Rondebosch Fountain.
“We will be planting more trees, improving the sidewalks, solving the scooter parking problem and investing in the way Rondebosch business district looks and feels.”
