Julliete Rose-Innes, 23, from Woodstock, will be directing and writing the original play How to Hold the World which will feature at the Kalk Bay theatre in December.
How to Hold the World is a one-person play that stars James Stoffberg, 23, from Lotus River.
The play is about a young boy tasked with holding up the world.
“He faces the scary but rewarding prospect of growing up. He learns that being alone doesn’t mean being strong, being helped doesn’t mean being selfish, and bravery is about being open to imagination and friendship,” Rose-Innes says.
She says this play is fun, imaginative, immersive, and thought-provoking.
“At the end of the show, kids and their grown-ups can join us on stage to meet all of our stuffed animal friends, and play with the set,” she says.
The message that she would like the audience to take from the play is that it is okay to ask for help.
“Being vulnerable, and in touch with your feelings, does not mean that you are weak,” she says.
Rose-Innes has previously directed Not Falling which featured at Theatre Arts in Observatory earlier this year and she is currently directing Baked Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night that will feature early next year.
How to Hold the World will play at the Kalk Bay Theatre, inside the Brass Bell, from Friday December 16 until Friday December 23, at 11.30am. Tickets can be booked at Quicket and cost R70 for children under 13 and R150 for adults. Children pay R50 if they use the promo code ‘penguin’.
