Youth Day fun run fund-raiser in Mowbray

The Youth in Transformation (YIT) public benefit organisation hosted a Youth Day fun run from Thandokhulu High School in Mowbray to raise money for their organisation that supports youth from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Over 100 participants took part in either a 5km or 10km race and started at staggered times to maintain safe Covid-19 protocols.

Founder of the Plumstead based YIT, Jason Stanier says the race entry fees from the participants will help in their various projects.

It includes their Buntu Majalaza Scholarship that helps disadvantaged pupils attend Model C schools as well as a tutorship programme that they run from Thandokhulu High for pupils coming from all over the city.

They are also raising funds for their project Hope House, which would provide a safe home for at-risk young adults from ages to 18 to 24 who need help with education.

Thandokhulu High School Grade 8 pupil, Esona Jackson says he was excited to commemorate Youth Day. “It was fun to see the youth enjoying this special day with a fun run,” he said..
