Cuban ambassador visits Salt River

The Cuban ambassador, Enrico Orta Gonzales, viewed Salt River’s murals when he toured the neighbourhood with members of the Salt River Heritage Society (SRHS) last Friday.
Dr Yusuf Lalken, chairman of the SRHS, said Salt River had a special connection with Cuba as one of Salt River’s residents, Ronald Herboldt, who had been working on a cargo ship that docked in Cuba in 1958, ended up joining the Cuban Revolution.
“We would like to revive the voices of Salt River, and we are glad that we could share this walk with the ambassador to see the different murals, and he listened to all the challenges in the community,” he said.
Dr Lalken said he hoped the Cuban embassy would consider sponsoring a mural in Salt River.
The Cuban embassy did not respond to requests for comment by deadline.
