Traders who wish to register to participate in the Mayor’s Craft Market that is part of the mayor’s skills development and poverty alleviation programme can do so now.
Registering gives vendors a free opportunity to sell their goods to City staff as well as members of the public visiting the Cape Town civic centre next week from Thursday February 27 until Friday February 28.
The City’s mayoral committee member for corporate services, Theresa Uys, said the market’s impact on local livelihoods, since its first run in September 2010, had been profound.
Products sold at the market included pillows, duvets, succulent pot plants, savouries, underwear, leather handbags and shoes, jewellery, smoked mackerel, women’s and children’s clothing, decoupage tablecloths and more.
Ms Uys said she was excited to welcome participating crafters to this year’s first market.
“Last year, we had 44 crafters and City staff came out in large numbers to connect with and support these artisans. This market is a powerful platform for promoting social cohesion and generating income to support families and build small businesses,” she said.
