Hair stylists and make-up artists in-training pulled out all the stops in the Western Province School of Skills’ hairdressing competition hosted in Mitchell’s Plain on Thursday July 27.
Pupils from schools of skills brought their A-game in demonstrating their talent and skill in transforming mannequins in various styles; including long hair down – classic day style, braiding street – trends, fantasy make-up – glitz and glam; hair by night – avant garde, gents colour, cut and blow; fantasy nails – flower tower; ethnic street – fashion open section; and ladies colour, cut and blow dry.
Supporter Tasneem Lincoln, aunt of participant Nishaat Gester, 18, from Lentegeur, said that being at the Rocklands school had given Nishaat more confidence.
“She was very withdrawn. It brought her out of her shell and she is blooming. She has her own little salon at home.
“It has opened doors to a career for her,” she said.
The participants appeared focused and determined to wow the judges who were all local and international professionals in the hair and make-up industries.
