Bardelli’s in Kenilworth has taken the title of South Africa’s favourite pizza restaurant in this year’s Porcupine Ridge Pizzeria Challenge.
The eatery received the award on Friday November 15. It includes the winner’s pizza paddle, R40 000 worth of marketing materials and R1 800 in vouchers for its staff.
The restaurant had to bow out of last year’s competition when a fire devastated part of the building causing it to close for nine months (“Bardelli’s gutted by fire,” Southern Suburbs Tatler, February 24, 2023).
Owner Grant Hawkins said he and his staff were ecstatic with the win.
“After the tough time last year, we entered the competition firmly believing that this was our year, and we were determined to win; we are thrilled to have done so.”
Three other Cape Town restaurants featured in the top-10. The 2022 winner, Ferdinandos, in Observatory, was the runner-up, Gino’s, from Stellenbosch, came seventh and Fat Harry’s, from Kenilworth, came in 10th place.
