Three aspiring southern suburbs musicians will be competing for top honours in the 37th National Youth Music Competition (NYMC) which will be held at the Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium in Parow from Monday December 5 until Saturday December 10.

Madison from St Cyprian’s School, Mikhaila a first-year student at Stellenbosch University and Vivianna from Westerford High will be playing the piano.
There are 11 contestants from the Western Cape, seven from Gauteng and one each from the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. This year there are 10 pianists, five flautists, four saxophonists and a violinist.
All 20 contestants had to submit video auditions where acclaimed musicians selected them to perform at NYMC.
Chairman of the NYMC, Michael Maas says the video auditions demonstrated the depth of classical music talent in South Africa. “Judged by the standards of the auditions, this year’s competition promises to be tough but exciting,” he says.
