America’s top speedcubing expert and entertainer, Anthony Brooks will be demonstrating his extraordinary swiftness at the World Cube Association (WCA)Speedcube event on Sunday December 4, at the Cape Town Science Centre, 370B Main Road, Observatory, from 8.15am to 5pm.
The Rubik’s Cube, invented by Hungarian sculptor, Erno Rubik, reached its height as a mainstream craze in the 80s.
Millions of cubes have since been sold, and since the early 2000s, Rubik’s Cube has enjoyed a resurgence as speedcubing, the feat of solving it and other cube-like puzzles at lightening speeds
If you fancy yourself as a nifty solver of the Rubik’s Cube, you can enter the competitions at the event which are open to all ages.
Brooks’s best cube-solving time is 6.42 seconds. Entries to the competitions, which feature different cube puzzle categories, are now open. Competitors can register online at www.speedcubes.co.za The entry is R80 online or R100 at the door.
