Westerford High pupils shine at maths Olympiad

Grade 10 Westerford High School pupil Ellen Grant-Smith.

Two Westerford High school pupils, Eli Williams, in Grade 9, and Ellen Grant-Smith, in Grade 10, were part of a South African mathematics team that finished third overall in the Pan African Mathematics Olympiad, held in Pretoria from Saturday May 13 until Monday May 22. The South Africans finished behind first-placed Morocco and second-placed Algeria. Eli and Ellen won silver medals for their efforts, and their teammates, Hugo Bruwer, from Hoër Jongenskool Paarl; Jana Rossouw, from Jim Fouché Hoërskool in Bloemfontein; and Yian Xu, from Redhill School in Sandton, also received their silver medals, while Moied Baleg, from The Settlers High School, in Bellville, received a bronze medal.
