The Early Learning Resource Unit (ELRU) will hold a charitable golf day in September to raise funds to support their ongoing work in early childhood development (ECD) and practitioner training.

The charity golf day will be held at the Rondebosch Golf Course on Thursday, September 11, coinciding with International Literacy Day on Monday, September 8.

The Lansdowne-based non-profit organisation has been training staff at ECD centres, assisting with infrastructure, zoning, health and safety compliance, learning material, and registration, for more than 50 years.

Tracy Fortune, CEO of ELRU, said South Africa’s future began with its children. “Quality early learning breaks cycles of poverty and builds a generation that is confident, capable, and connected. Your support ensures that children in marginalized communities gain access to foundational education for lifelong success,” she said.

South African cricket legend Vernon Philander, who has his self-named organisation called the Vernon Philander Foundation, will also be joining the golf day.

Mr Philander said he was looking forward to supporting ELRU, representing his organisation. “Both ELRU and the foundation were focused on giving children the strongest possible start in life. When we invest in the early years, whether through learning, nutrition, or mentorship, we’re laying the foundation for healthier, more resilient communities,” he said.

The deadline to register for this golf day is on Friday, September 5. To participate in this golf day and to find out more about ELRU, contact Candice Arendse by calling 021 762 7500 or email  candice@elru.co.za or visit www.elru.co.za
