We have been waiting for four years for Ems to put out a body of work but we are pretty sure the wait will be worth it.
He released two singles in anticipation for the album, ‘Walk On Water’ featuring Beyoncè and ‘Untouchable’, from this ninth studio album, Revival. Both songs received a good balance of critical reviews.
While it helped that he had assistance from queen Bey, the former single, according to popular opinion, didn’t live up to the higher standards the artists are renowned for.
However, we believe the message is as clear as day and the solemn piano chords at the back of their desperate lyrical plea drives the point they’re communicating home, that they’re only human with human emotions.
It’s a real, raw and honest piece of art.
Marshall has always talked about his fears and insecurities of obsolescence but he reminds us at the end that he wrote ‘Stan’.
So, Guess who’s back? You guessed right, Slim Shady is back again.
‘Untouchable’ on the other hand, is a politically driven track which could easily be seen as an extension of his BET Hip-Hop Awards Cypher freestyle, where he lambasted President Trump nnd his fans. He also showed support to Colin Kaepernick and shared his oeverall stance on the current standings of America.
On ‘Untouchable’, he continues by denouncing police brutality, segregation and other forms of systemic racism in America.
Revival is a 19- track album with appearances from industry superstars, Beyoncè, Alicia Keys, Ed Sheeran, Pink, Kehlani, Skylar Grey, Phresher and X Ambassadors.
With titles such as ‘Untouchable’, ‘Like Home’ featuring Alicia Keys and ‘Heat’, as well as the American flag- themed album art and promotional content — we are likely to believe that his album leans more on the political side.
Slim Shady is hosting a pop-up shop in his hometown, Detroit today and tomorrow to celebrate his album release.
