The reality of apartheid, once only a seed, continues to disseminate tradition, for its devastation it caused throughout the country and its citizens, who are being compromised as they participate by default in the configuration and systems of reverse Apartheid, said author Dr Quinton Simpson.
The Muizenberg resident released his second book titled Apartheid of the Heart: Affirmative Action and Me, which was launched at a Waterfront-based bookstore on Thursday, August 21. His book is edited by Charmaine Hess and is self-published.
Around 30 guests attended the launch, where they were also entertained by classical music and poetry by Cameron Chetty.
Dr. Simpson, originally from Bloemfontein, currently works as an entrepreneur and business consultant, promoting a brand of lifestyle products.
He said it was important for him to work on this book as he felt he needed to fix “some things within myself.”
“I believe it was a conversation that I was working on with myself. I believe that it is not unique to me; there is a platform for many South Africans who are in the minority who want answers for a lot of things,” he said.
His book also touches on the polarising policy of affirmative action that began with the dawn of democracy in the country in 1994. Dr Simpson says the book examines the issues that society has with affirmative action.
“It is important for readers to understand that policies that were oppressive were mere circumstances; we have to internally elevate ourselves,” he said.
He added that all circumstances, whether it is the ancient Roman Empire that ruled over a great part of the earth for decades, have gone away.
“ So the circumstances that concern society will pass, and if we have the strength from within, then we can create our own life,” he said.
Dr Simpson's first book, The Business Legend, was released four years ago, which he said focused on spirituality in business.
Apart from Dr Simpson’s career as an entrepreneur and working as an author, he stays active by walking two to three times a week, as he enjoys dancing as well.
