U-Watch, a Woodstock neighbourhood watch, has won a City of Cape Town award.

The watch was named Neighbourhood Watch Group of the Year at the City’s annual Neighbourhood Watch Awards ceremony, on Saturday.

To comply with Covid-19 regulations, only two representatives from nominated watches attended the function, while others watched the proceedings online.

JP Smith, mayoral committee member for safety and security, said: “I am proud to be associated with the hundreds of volunteers who exhibit care, dedication and innovation in serving their communities, and I stand behind them 100 percent in their efforts to make Cape Town safe for us all.”

Cedric Thomas, U-Watch’s public relations officer, accepted the award on behalf of the watch.

“A neighbourhood watch award like this goes a long way to uplifting the team. They work hard as a collective, and it motivates them further to continue doing their work in the community,” he said.
