Previn Pillay
Police are investigating a murder after missing Pinelands man Previn Pillay was found dead.
Provincial police spokeswoman Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed in a brief statement on Wednesday January 20 that they had opened a murder investigation into Mr Pillay’s death.
Mr Pillay, 29, had been missing since Wednesday evening December 23.
According to a family spokesman, Mr Pillay was last seen on his way to Sea Point, at about 9pm, in his white Toyota Hilux 1.5 cab bakkie. The family tried to call him on Thursday December 24, but his phone was disconnected, and the vehicle’s tracker was turned off on Saturday December 26 (“Search for missing Pinelands man,” Southern Suburbs Tatler, January 8).
The family reported him missing to the Pinelands police and a flyer with Mr Pillay’s information was shared with the Western Cape Missing Persons Unit.
According to Sergeant Rwexana, a body was found near Hazendal railway station on Sunday December 27. DNA tests confirmed on Wednesday January 20 that it was Mr Pillay. His vehicle is still missing.
