UCT music student wins gold

Chairman of the National Youth Music Competition, Michael Maas, left, with UCT music student, Gerhard Joubert, 19, who won a gold medal and R30 000 first-place prize money in the competition, at the Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium in Parow, last Saturday. Gerhard, from Rosebank, also bagged the first prize of the piano category, plus two additional prizes, which include the best performance of a South African work in any round, as well as R5 000 for the best performance of a concerto in the final round, which he did with the competition’s silver medallist, Eike Coetzee, a matriculant at the Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere in Germany.
