New pop-up charity shop in Claremont

Help the Rural Child opened a new pop-up charity shop in Claremont on Monday July 4.

“The idea of a pop-up shop is to go to an area that they haven’t gone into before,” said Matthew Cheketri, the charity’s operations manager. The store, at 71 Imam Haron Road, would be open for the next three months, he added.

Help the Rural Child director Nicky Antonie said the store would aid the charity’s fund-raising efforts to support the Goedgedacht Trust, which helps children living in poverty in rural areas.

Help the Rural Child also has charity shops in Cape Town, Kirstenhof, Mowbray, Retreat and Sea Point.

The shop has second-hand clothing, toys, furniture and bric-a-brac.

Mr Cheketri said they would collect donations from those who could not deliver them to the shop.

The shop is open from Monday to Friday, from 9am until 5pm, and on Saturdays, from 9am until 1pm. Call 021 685 2810.
