One raised intersection is to be installed in Queen Victoria Road near Claremont Primary School.
The City will be installing new traffic-calming measures, including speed humps, near schools, pre-schools and a mosque in Claremont and Rondebosch.
Most of the measures would be implemented around schools, said mayoral committee member for urban mobility Rob Quintas.
“It means they will slow down traffic, thus, making it safer for more vulnerable road users such as children walking and riding to school, cyclists and pedestrians.”
Two speed bumps will be installed in Wood Road, Rondebosch, near Micklefield Primary; a raised intersection will be installed at Miller and Queen Victoria roads, Claremont, near Claremont Primary School; a speed hump will be installed in Lancaster Road, Harfield Village, near Peak Pre-primary; and a speed hump will be installed in Harvey Road, Claremont, near the Harvey Road Mosque.
“Preparation work has started already in Ward 58 and the signs and asphalt cutting have been completed,” Mr Quintas said.
Ward 58 Councillor Katherine Christie said taxis were rat running in Queen Victoria Road to get to the Claremont taxi rank faster.
“I am therefore very pleased that taxi drivers and motorists will have to slow down as they approach Miller Street, as this will protect pedestrians,” she said.
