The Soli Philander Foundation held its launch in Walmer Estate, last Friday, thanking the donors who support it.

The organisation was formed over a year ago in response to the impact of Covid-19. It feeds the homeless in District Six, Salt River, Woodstock and the City Bowl and supports members of the LGBTQ+ community (“Soli’s foundation to hold fund-raiser for charity work,” Southern Suburbs Tatler, April 14, 2022)

“We are trying to honour where we come from in District Six and where we were raised, that if people needed help with food, we would be there to support them,” said Mr Philander.

Committee member Sharon van Schoor said an Easter egg hunt for children and an arts and culture programme for teenagers were among the projects they had lined up for this year.

One of the donors, Carol Zimri, of Bonteheuwel, said she had supported non-profits in the past, but had never received feedback on where the funding went. “With Soli, he explained to me clearly what the organisation does, and I even got involved when they did their work in the community,” she said.
