Maintenance on the Lower Church Street bridge includes the repair and replacement of damaged balustrades and installation of precast concrete handrails
Six months of maintenance work on the Lower Church Street bridge over the N1 in Woodstock is nearing completion, says the City.
The project is expected to be completed at the end of the month, and motorists are advised to expect delays on the N1 at Lower Church Street until then, says mayoral committee member for urban mobility Rob Quintas.
The work includes the repair and replacement of damaged balustrades and installation of precast concrete handrails; the repair of structural defects on beams and columns and the application of protective coating to exposed concrete elements.
Traffic-control measures include a 60km/h speed limit when work is under way; a temporary lane closure; a stop-and-go system and a temporary road closure at Lower Church Street if required.
The scope of the work made it difficult to do at night, said Mr Quintas.
“The structure will be safer and more aesthetically pleasing for all road users and local businesses.
