The Rustenburg Girls Junior School will host the National Ensemble Competition from Thursday August 8 to Saturday August 10.
Hendrik Marais, the school’s head of creative arts, says the competition is a chance for musicians from Grade 4 to matric from across the country to meet, exchange ideas and push the boundaries of artistic excellence.
The competition encompasses a range of genres, including classical and jazz, and ensemble categories, including orchestras, chamber groups, choirs, and more. Participating groups will perform before judges, receive feedback and compete for prizes.
Any school can enter a classical trio quartet; jazz band ensemble of five to 15 members; a large classical ensemble of five to 15 members; and orchestras of 16 or more members by visiting the official competition website at https://www.national-ensemble-competition.co.za/
The closing date for entries is Monday May 6 and Saturday May 25 the deadline for video recordings submissions for round one. The announcement of finalists invited to round two will be on Thursday June 6.
