The Livingstone High School Alumni Association is calling on more former pupils to be part of the school’s planning for the future.
The school will celebrate its centenary in 2026, marking a critical milestone and underscoring its resilience, the dedication of its staff and its proud reputation, says Envir Fraser, a board member of the association.
“The significant adversity that the school weathered in fighting for equality, quality education and freedom in our country is not lost on the alumni association,” he says.
Officially formed in 2021, the 350-member association will discuss its involvement in Livingstone High’s centenary celebrations when it holds its annual general meeting later this month. Mr Fraser said the AGM would also be networking opportunity for the alumni, giving them a chance to talk about their experiences across professional, social and sporting spheres.
“As an organisation that represents the past students and staff of the school, it is critical that we continue to draw on new active members to support its activities and present opportunities for networking amongst its members,” he said.
The association’s deputy chairperson, former principal Simon Banda, said he was in regular contact with alumni both locally and abroad and the centenary was expected to bring together former Livingstone High pupils from across generations and professions.
Livingstone High principal Raliyah Ganie, herself a member of the association, said it played a key role in helping needy pupils achieve their academic goals through sponsorships and bursaries.
“They have consistently proven to be a cornerstone of support for the institution, playing a crucial role in enhancing pupil development and academic excellence.”
The association had also helped to bolster the school’s infrastructure and resources, she said.
The AGM will be held in the school hall on Saturday June 29, from 2pm. Email alumni.livingstone@gmail.com or visit livingstonehigh.co.za if you would like to join the association or for more information.
