The South African Police Service (SAPS) recently gathered to honour the hard work, sacrifice, and dedication of its outstanding members at the 10th annual National Excellence Awards.
Held on Sunday, January 26, at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC) in KwaZulu-Natal, the event recognised the men and women in blue who have gone above and beyond to serve and protect the people of South Africa.
Under the theme “Saluting those who shine in the line of duty”, the awards celebrated exceptional achievements across the SAPS.
The evening not only acknowledged the individual and team accomplishments but also encouraged continued excellence in service to communities.
The event was attended by the country’s top-notch included the Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, Deputy Ministers Cassel Mathale and Polly Boshielo, National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, and various high-ranking officials and stakeholders.
This year's ceremony featured over 40 award categories, recognising outstanding individuals and teams in various fields. Key categories included Vispol Team of the Year, Detective Service Member of the Year, FCS (Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences) Investigator of the Year, Forensic Services Team of the Year, and Woman of the Year. Other noteworthy categories included Station of the Year, CPF (Community Policing Forum) of the Year, and the coveted Laurette Award for the overall audience winner.
The event also featured special awards presented by Minister Mchunu and General Masemola. During his keynote address, Minister Mchunu applauded the winners and nominees for their exemplary service.
"Your unwavering commitment to serving South Africa with integrity and dedication is commendable. You have set a high standard of professionalism and selflessness, inspiring your colleagues and the nation," said Minister Mchunu.
He further encouraged the SAPS members to strive for continued excellence, outlining the importance of trust and teamwork in building a police service that is effective, respected, and trusted by communities.
One of the evening's most inspiring moments came when groundsman NS Dubazane of SAPS Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal was crowned this year’s Laureate Award Winner. At the age of 46, Dubazane became a first-time car owner, receiving a brand-new vehicle along with R20 000.
Mr Dubazane also took home the award for Admin Employee of the Year (level 2–4), a recognition of his diligent efforts in maintaining the surroundings of SAPS Ladysmith, consistently ranked as the cleanest police station in KwaZulu-Natal.
