Join walk to help museum

The Fish Hoek Valley Museum will hold a historical beach walk on Sunday February 9 from 2pm till 4pm.

The meeting point is at the dolphin statue outside The Galley. Participants will follow a 2km walk along Simon’s Town Road, returning over the Sunny Cove railway bridge and along Jager’s Walk, back to the Fish Hoek beachfront. There will be steps to climb over the railway bridge at Sunny Cove.

Snippets of history and trivia along the way will include references to the old pavilion, the Homestead Hotel, Uitkyk, Orano and Bull Pritchard’s Lilliputian Garden, the men’s bathers, the shark exclusion net, the mermaid’s chair, the whaling industry, Mountain View, Sewe Mans Klip, the Delbridge Quarry, and Belvedere Flats.

The cost is R150 each and R100 for pensioners and members of the Fish Hoek Valley Historic Association. Children under 12 are free.

Booking is essential as numbers are limited. All proceeds from the walk will be used to cover the running costs of the Fish Hoek Valley Museum. Take hats, sunscreen, and water.

The site where the Old Homestead Hotel used to be is now home to the SA navy.

The beach walk will follow a 2km trail along Simon’s Town Road, returning over the Sunny Cove railway bridge and along Jager’s Walk back to the Fish Hoek beachfront.
