A Kraaifontein couple are beaming with joy after being taken out for a Valentine’s Day date last Friday.
Julene Skippers, 59, and her husband Joseph Skippers, 64, were taken out by Kraailove, a Kraaifontein community organisation, to a Claremont restaurant.
An e-hailing service arrived at their home in Scottsdene at around 6pm and took them back home just after 10pm.
Ms Skippers said they got married on December 2 in 1987 and have five children together and eight grandchildren.
“I learnt to build my love on the rock of Jesus. I learnt to say everything to the Lord, how I feel, how I want the man, how the man should be. And when the children were there, he was a very good father.”
She said their relationship had its own ups and downs but they had always found a way to solve their problems.
“And what also kept our marriage and love going was mutual respect, communication, and when we argued, it was in our room and not in front of the children, and we never discussed each other with other people,” she said.
At the restaurant, they had a three-course meal and champagne and were entertained by Shadley Schroeder, says Kraailove founder Kwayo Louw.
