Silverlea Primary School launched their new R10.7 million school hall today.
The hall was built by the Garden Cities Archway Foundation together with the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), marking this as the 126th hall completed by the foundation.
The school hall boasts vibrant colours, seating areas, a stage, a kitchen, wall decor, and enough space for the entire school to gather.
School principal for the past three years, Sharon Brink, said that the hall was not only a space where achievements could be celebrated, but where the talents of pupils could be showcased, and communities could gather. She said the new hall was more than just a building – it was a symbol of progress and community spirit.
Ms Brink said the hall would also be shared with other schools in the area that did not have a hall, and with the community at large.
“We are deeply grateful to all who contributed to making this dream a reality, including the Archway Foundation, the WCED, the school governing body, generous contributions from local donors, and support from the wider community. The school is proud to continue building a brighter future for its learners and the community at large,” she said.
Group CEO of Garden Cities (NPC) (RF), John Matthews, said that through its financial partnership with the WCED, their goal remains to help provide equal facilities for the pupils of the Western Cape. He said that from the start of the hall project, an improvement was noticed in the academic performance and morale of pupils.
“Education is the key to stability and financial security for everyone in South Africa, and as corporate citizens, it’s our responsibility to help redress the inequalities of the past and give all the children we possibly can, the opportunity to reach their full potential,” he said.
The school’s deputy-head pupil, Tatum Jansen, said: “This hall gives us a chance to shine and share our passions with others. I can’t wait to perform on the stage,” she said.
