Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old woman in Woodstock on Monday evening.
Provincial police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg says Woodstock police responded to a complaint of a shooting in Sussex Street. “Upon arrival on the scene they found the body of a 30-year-old female who sustained gunshot wounds to her body.”
Sergeant Twigg says further reports indicate that the victim was approached by an unknown suspect who shot her before fleeing the scene. “The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined.”
According to IOL reports, the victim was identified as Imaan Syms who is the daughter of Ziyaad Williams, a prominent figure in the minstrel fraternity and owner of the D Six Hanover Park Minstrels.
Heartfelt condolences as well as a funeral notification had been shared on social media. The Tatler tried to speak to a relative of the victim but she was too shaken to comment.
Woodstock Community Policing Forum (CPF) public relations officer, Gary Adams, says the shooting has left the community distraught.
“It is unfortunate and regrettable that a young lady’s life was taken in this tragic manner.”
Mr Adams says their organisation sent their deepest condolences to the family.
Ms Syms's funeral took place on Wednesday March 12 in Woodstock.
