Lansdowne resident Geila Wills was selected as the new Lions Multiple District Council Chair 410 incorporating South Africa, eSwatini and Namibia, on Saturday May 3 at the annual convention held at Goudini Spa, Rawsonville.
Ms Wills has long been a member of Lions International, the world's largest service organisation, since 1983 when she was part of the Leo Organisation, a project of Lions.
Over the years she has occupied various positions from Club President, District Governor, a member of the International Leo Advisory panel, Area Leader for Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) and now Council Chair Elect
“Serving your community is a way of life and I have been making a difference to those in need since I was a child,” she says.
In her new role as the new Council Chair Elect, she will encourage members to have fun, serve with passion and take up leadership positions. Lions International aims to grow its membership to 1.5 million by 2027.
“We want to continue to do more community service, increase our visibility, and people need to be made aware of who Lions are and what we do.”
Ms Wills says her organisation continues to serve the eight global causes - childhood cancer, diabetes, empowering youth, improving the quality of life for blind and visually impaired, hunger, humanitarian, disaster relief and the environment.
Ms Wills says they would also like to attract members with various skill sets whether it is in public relations or accounting who are passionate to serve.
“Lions is about having a lot of fun, forming life-long friendships, improving our leadership abilities to better serve our communities,” she says.
