BeatBangaz DJ Academy launches in Woodstock, empowering young DJs

The G-CAP, a non-profit company, unveiled its new teaching campus for its flagship project called the BeatBangaz DJ Academy at the Tiny Warehouse in Woodstock earlier this month.

G-CAP, which has been registered for 13 years and has been operating remotely across Cape Town, is dedicated to empowering youth through hip-hop culture. They offer skills development in turntablism, graffiti, breakdancing, emceeing, and self-knowledge.

The BeatBangaz DJ Academy will allow aspiring DJs, regardless of their experience level, to register and embark on a transformative journey into the world of DJing. The academy offers specialised courses that seamlessly blend traditional DJ techniques with cutting-edge modern technology, honing technical skills in creative industry production and fostering future talents in the music world.

Head of the BeatBangaz DJ Academy, Ricardo Nunes from Surrey Estate, also known as  DJ Azuhl said the move to Tiny Warehouse marks a pivotal moment for the BeatBangaz DJ Academy, providing a dedicated space to nurture the next generation of South African DJs.

The opening of their new Woodstock location started with a free workshop for youth on Saturday, July 5.

“These open days are more than just workshops; they’re about creating community, from networking and exchanging ideas to sharing skills and inspiration. Our goal is to preserve and elevate the DJ arts while providing a welcoming platform for both emerging talent and seasoned pros,” he said

Co-CEO and founder of G-CAP, Deon Daniels from Mitchells Plain, also known as DJ Ready D, said the warmth inside that room couldn’t be matched, beats were shared, knowledge exchanged, and a community strengthened.

“This was more than just a session; it was the beginning of something deeper. As we take a moment to reflect and meditate on activating Phase Two, we thank our partner Pioneer DJ. We know that your support fuels the next chapter,” he said.

“We encourage young people from about age 13 and upwards who are serious about learning the art of DJing and music production to apply,” said DJ Ready D.
