Ward 58 councillor, Richard Hill, honoured community workers in the Ward 58 Civic Awards held in the Alphen Centre in Constantia late last month.

Mr Hill honoured long-serving chairperson of the Har-Lyn Neighbourhood Watch (NW), Derek Bluck, who has been leading the watch for 13 years.

“Har-Lyn NW has been tireless and courageous in confronting common criminals and dangerous gangsters. It is fitting that this award goes to Derek Bluck on his retirement from active service in the community,” he said

Mr Hill also honoured two members of the Friends of the Kenilworth Racecourse Conservation Area, Sally Hey and Margaret Kahle, for their voluntary contributions to the conservation of this 52-hectare conservation area.

“I serve on the Environmental Management Team (EMT) with Sally and Margaret and can vouch for the respect they are given by the professionals on the committee and the executives of the race course,” he said.
