Mogamad Salie, 55, from Salt River released his new book titled Navigating my Autism & ADHD: Essays, Vignettes, Poems & Conversations earlier this month.

Mr Salie said his new book, which he describes as his memoirs, captures his thoughts and experiences as an autistic engineer, compounded by having ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), often denoted as ‘AuDHD’ within the Neurodivergent community.

“It explores the journey I embarked on before and after I was diagnosed,” he said.

Mr Salie said that when his wife was researching his diagnoses, he discovered he could calm down his overactive, anxious, and looping mind by documenting various thoughts and activities.

“Over the years, I have arranged them into essays, poems, passages, and conversations. I hope the writings contained in this book will provide insight into the mind and struggles of a Neurodivergent individual, and spread awareness,” he said.

Mr Salie said that it is important for him to get this message across in his book.

“Just the work involved in getting it out is a form of therapy for me,” he said.

Mr Salie, who is a former electrical engineer, also released his self-published book, Chicken Legs, more than two years ago. (“A message of hope for those with autism, Southern Suburbs Tatler).

Mr Salie says writing helps to calm his constant looping mind.

He next plans to write a sequel to Chicken Legs, though he will continue to journal his thoughts to perhaps produce new content.
