Musical director, Kevin Kraak, said he was thrilled to be working on CHICAGO the Musical, showing at the Artscape Theatre towards the end of the month.

CHICAGO the Musical is a 1975 American musical and this production has an all South African cast which stars Kiruna-Lind Devar as chorus girl turned murderess, Roxie Hart, Samantha Peo in the iconic role of Velma Kelly, the famous Vaudeville performer and fellow murderess, with Jonathan Roxmouth playing role of the slick, charismatic yet devious lawyer Billy Flynn and Tankiso Mamabolo who plays the role of Matron Mama Morton interacting with the two leads, who are locked up in prison.

Mr Kraak, from Pinelands, said his role as musical director is to teach the score to the cast and band. “To make sure all the details of the score are taken care of,” he said.

Mr Kraak said he is thrilled to be working with a stellar cast. “It's both an immense pleasure and privilege,” he said. He has previously worked on CHICAGO the Musical before the pandemic and did a two-year tour of New Zealand, Germany, Austria, and China as well as local theatres in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
