Three Pinelands North Primary School pupils stood out at the Eskom Science Expo that took place last month at the University of Cape Town.

Quaid Holton impressed judges in Plant Sciences with his research on biochar’s effect on plant growth, while Benjamin Draper, in Computer Science, investigated the accuracy of foot-based versus wrist-based pedometers. Benjamin's innovative project earned him a silver medal and the Best Primary School Computer Science Project award.

Qiniso Freeth explored the impact of toxic relationships on pre-teens in Social Sciences, earning recognition for his study.

These pupils competed with 100 participants across 16 categories, each earning a silver medal through dedication and curiosity.

Pinelands North school teacher, Tamsin Carelse, who accompanied and prepared them for the competition, said it was a joy working with these brilliant young minds. “Each brought something unique, and their passion and maturity were truly inspiring. Watching them shine at the Eskom Science Expo was a proud moment I’ll never forget,” she said.
