Various civil society groups and city employees participated in a joint community clean-up of the Rondebosch Common on Thursday, September 25.

The Rondebosch Community Improvement District (RCID)  was joined by the City’s Recreational and City Parks, Solid Waste team members, Friends of Rondebosch Common committee members, and Ward 58 councillor Richard Hill.

RCID manager Kas Chandramohan said during the clean-up, they tackled and cleared 10 vagrant nesting sites, compared to clearing up 17 vagrant nesting sites in the previous clean-up.

“Close to 80 bags of litter were removed,” she said.

RCID shares valuable tips for anyone using the Rondebosch Common:

* If you use headphones, try to keep the volume low so you can stay aware of your surroundings.

* Walk or run with a friend where possible, and try to avoid the more secluded central vegetation areas.

* If you spot anything suspicious, please contact Mowbray police, who have been assigned to oversee the Rondebosch Common at 021 680 9588 or 021 680 9580, or WhatsApp the RCID security hub at 079 595 7387. Include a pin location when reporting.
