Wynberg resident Lauren Kellner has turned her personal journey of spirituality and self-discovery into her latest self-published book titled The Caprosma Who Wasn’t a “Go-Getter”.

Published earlier this year, the book is a deeply personal collection of letters, essays, and poems written over the past 15 years.

Through her book, Ms Kellner reflects on her life in Cape Town and places that she frequented,  such a Valkenberg Hospital, where she has been a patient since 1992, to everyday encounters across the city that have shaped her outlook on life.

“I am a spiritual person, so that theme runs through all the entries in the book,” she said

Ms Kellner said writing the book allowed her to look back on her life. “My writings were records of places I have been to and people I have met...I wanted to share some of my life with those who are interested in reading my work and offer hope to others,” she said.

In this book, she also shares her experiences at Wynberg Library, the Peacock Tea and Coffee Shop in Rondebosch, visiting the flower sellers in Rondebosch, as well as the Spiritual Centre Church in Diep River.

Ms Kellner grew up in her family home in Newlands. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree she obtained at UCT and completed at UNISA. She is also a French tutor.

Ms Kellner also previously released seven other books, which included titles like Kelleidoscope, Razzle Dazzle Doo; and Shadrach the Shark, to name a few.

With her latest book, she would like her readers to experience how she, a woman, coped in her thirties, forties, and early fifties in Cape Town without her father, who raised her. “How love came and went and has now come back again,” she said.
