Cape Town Central Library patrons got into the festive spirit on Thursday, December 11, by participating in the second Christmas do-it-yourself decorations craft session.
Attendees showcased their creativity by transforming everyday items into beautiful holiday decorations. They were busy tearing, folding, and sticking to create snowflakes, stars, and paper chains. The session focused on upcycling, using materials like kitchen paper for stars and strips cut from coffee packets for paper chains.
This follows last week's successful craft session, where patrons made stars and flowers from toilet paper tubes and crafted angels from recycled paper. The library's initiative encourages sustainable and creative ways to decorate for the festive season.

Facilitator Bev Gillespie, from Green Point, believes that keeping both children and adults' hands busy is vital for keeping their minds active.
"People are always swiping on cellphones and disengaged," she said.
"Last week we had a father who brought his daughter from Khayelitsha, and it was their time to bond," she said.
Ms Gillespie emphasised that everything she has researched points to brain development being dependent on activities involving one's hands.
"Christmas is such a lovely time to do crafts," she said, adding that it is a festive time that brings people together.

Zanele Mvulana, from Blue Downs, brought her daughter Sonwabele to the session.
"I thought it would be good to bond with my baby. We don't usually have the time to do activities," she said.
Mcedo Peter, from Cape Town, said he loves to participate in the library's programmes.
"I like to draw and paint and learn new skills," he said.
The Central Library is hosting a range of free activities to keep the whole family entertained until beyond the new year.
