The new Paper Moon production will feature at Theatre Arts in Observatory on Thursday, February 5, Friday, February 6, and Saturday, February 7 at 8pm.
Paper Moon is created by magician and theatre maker Jesse Brooks from Constantia and is directed by the acclaimed Megan Choritz from Woodstock.
The partnership between Mr Brooks and Ms Choritz brings together two formidable South African voices. Mr Brooks said that it is a joy to be working with Ms Choritz. “I am so grateful for her guidance, the deep care she has shown in bringing this show to life. She is a consummate expert, and I feel immense gratitude to her,” he said.
Mr Brooks, who has many years of experience as a magician, said Paper Moon is a visual theatre. “So there will be lots to see; more than just seeing, I’d love everyone to feel it and allow it to settle on them like a strange dream,” he said.
Ms Choritz, an award-winning playwright and director, describes the process as a transformative shift from her usual activist-driven work. “Working with Jesse on Paper Moon has been an amazing gift," said Ms Choritz. "It made me into a completely different human being. Being an activist, this show has broken me open and allowed the creative light to shine through. How lucky am I?" she said.
Paper Moon invites the audience to slow down and rediscover how art and imagination can mend the spirit.
Paper Moon will feature at Theatre Arts, on the corner of Milton Road and Wesley Street, Observatory. Tickets are available at Theatre Arts.
