The Mountain Road Primary Grade R pupils held a Green Day at their school on Wednesday, January 28.
Grade R teacher Merelia Lewis of the Woodstock-based school said the idea for Green Day came from a symbol of growth. “We wanted the pupils to feel included by wearing the same colour. Grade R is the starting point of their school journey, and we as Grade R teachers wanted to make it memorable for them,” she said.
Ms Lewis said that the colour green was incorporated into their lessons, and pupils brought green-themed lunches, which they were excited to show their friends and teachers. “They had to collect items around the classroom that are green, and we also read the story Green Eggs and Ham. We went outside, and we discussed all the green things that we could see,” she said.
