The Seeds of Peace: Echoes of Memories production is coming to Theatre Arts, Observatory, in February.
Seeds of Peace: Echoes of Memories is directed by Wanie Johannes and co-directed by Sinazo Mxeli and is choreographed by Artistic Director Sbonakaliso Ndaba.
This production is carried out by the Observatory-based SboNdaba Dance non-profit, which is led by acclaimed dancer and choreographer Ms Ndaba from Southfield.
Ms Ndaba said this production is rooted in South Africa’s layered history.
“The work draws from the impact of colonialism and the legacy of powerful indigenous kingdoms, revealing cycles of rupture, resilience, and renewal,” she said.
She added, “Through dance and music, ancestral knowledge resurfaces, echoing through our traces, to imagine peace not as an end, but as something continually planted, carried, and reborn,” she said.
Seeds of Peace: Echoes of Memories is the third production in an ongoing Theatre Arts showcase series that foregrounds the creative voices of SboNdaba Dance artists. “This platform has gained recognition for its successful, dancer-led works that reflect both personal and collective narratives,” said Ms Ndaba.
The production features acclaimed musicians and vocalists Zinziswa Nogavu and Vuyisani Mkwambi, whose exceptional artistry adds depth and emotional resonance to the work.
Seeds of Peace: Echoes of Memories will take place at Theatre Arts, Methodist Church Hall, corner of Milton Road and Wesley Street, Observatory on Thursday, February 19, Friday, February 20, and Saturday February 21, from 7pm.
