The fashion and glamour of the LGBTQ+ community will be celebrated at the fourth Love Pride Ball, taking place at the Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock on Saturday, February 7.
Edition Events, which is one of the organisers, said the ball has become a cornerstone of Cape Town’s queer ballroom community. It will include judged categories, performances, and community-led programming in one night.
The Love Pride Ball will include "the floor", which is the sacred arena where the competition takes place, which is a runway where reputation is built, and artistry is judged. Unlike a standard nightlife event, this function is governed by strict rules of engagement. Participants "walk" and compete in specific categories, ranging from face and realness to vogue femme, before a panel of judges.
Léa Debbah, founder of Edition Events, said ballroom was about resilience and chosen family, and that energy created something really special in South Africa.
“We aren't trying to over-complicate it; we aim to provide this community with the platform it deserves. The atmosphere is intense. Sure, it’s where you are judged, but it’s also where you are celebrated,” she said.
The Love Pride Ball will take place at Hearty / The Old Biscuit Mill, 375 Albert Road, Woodstock, on Saturday, February 7, from 9pm until 2am. Tickets are R80 per person and are available on Quicket and at the door.
