Sharon Wright, from Table View, is the new president of the Groote Schuur Lions Club.
The former Ward 58 councillor and long-serving Lion was inducted during a ceremony at the Rondebosch Sports Club on Saturday July 1.
She takes over from the previous president, Munyaradzi Nhidza.
“We are going to work towards the club excellence and continue to work and adapt our projects to the communities we serve,” Ms Wright said.
The club, which has previously held diabetes and sight screenings at high schools and given groceries to school feeding programmes, would continue to help schools in need, she said.
Ms Wright has been part of Lions for 15 years, and this is her fifth time as the Groote Schuur Lions president. The organisation holds annual nominations for new leadership positions.
“We always encourage different ideas, and we work off the energy of new club members who are nominated as president,” she said.
“Every time when I take over as leader, the environment and the community change, and we always have new members joining, which makes leading in the club exciting.”
New Lions district governor 410W, Neville van Rensburg, wished Ms Wright well. “We trust that your leadership will move the club forward, and may you bring prestige to the club that is held in high regard,” he said.
Ms Wright also received the International Lions president’s excellence award at her induction ceremony.
