A Groote Schuur Hospital trust that will aid fund-raising efforts for the facility was official launched last month.
It has been in the pipeline for many years but only started to take shape from 2017, according to Kristy Evans, the executive director of the Groote Schuur Hospital Trust.
“Dr Marian Jacobs led this process and there were meetings with the hospital CEO, hospital board members and heads of departments.”
In 2018, the facility board had officially resolved to establish the trust and provide initial financial support with the assistance of the heads of department and management, she said.
The trust had been established in 2019 and trustee appointments had followed last year, Ms Evans said.
The hospital’s CEO, Dr Bhavna Patel, said: “The hospital management, staff and all who interact with our health-care services are beyond excited for it finally to come into fruition and we pray for the public’s support.”
Ms Evans said the trust would be working on projects to benefit the hospital including a diabetic centre.
