A Salt River family are in shock after two robbers forced their way into their home last week.
Nazmie Jamodien, of Kingsley Road, says his wife and teenage daughter were returning from a petrol station after 11pm last Wednesday when two men accosted them in front of the home as they were getting out of the vehicle.
“The two men forced them into the house. One had a gun. I was upstairs when I heard a noise, and when I came downstairs, I saw my daughter in distress,” Mr Jamodien said.
One of the men hit his sister-in-law with a pan, he said, adding that as the family had been forced upstairs, he had managed to call his neighbours for help, which had led to the intruders leaving, taking cellphones, a laptop and the keys for the house and the car, although they did not steal the car.
“I had to change all the locks on my house and my car was taken to the insurance to get the lock changed,” he said. “All of us are still in shock and will require counselling.”
The intruders were black; one was strongly built and tall and wore a black tracksuit while the other was thin and small and wore a green cap, he said.
Woodstock police chief Colonel Delven Matroos said they were investigating a house robbery. No arrests have been made.
Mr Jamodien urged Salt River residents to stay vigilant, report any suspicious activity to the authorities and support community-led crime prevention initiatives.
