Five VW Polos were stolen in Rondebosch in the past month, leading police to warn owners of these vehicles to be extra vigilant.
According to Rondebosch police spokesman, Warrant Officer Lyndon Sisam, a silver Polo was parked in Duke Road, at around 8.30am, on Wednesday July 19, and when the driver returned at 2pm, it was gone.
On Saturday July 22, two white Polos were stolen between 7pm and 10.30pm. One was taken from University Crescent and the other from Baxter Road.
On Monday July 24, the driver of a white Polo, which had been parked in Madiba Circle, returned at 5.15pm to find the car gone.
Another Polo was taken from Madiba Circle two days later, on Wednesday July 26. The owner parked it at 8am and found it gone at 11am. It was later found abandoned in Brown’s Farm, Philippi, at around 1.30pm on the same day.
“Take precautions to avoid your VW being stolen by installing a tracking device and parking the car behind locked gates or in a garage at night,” Warrant Officer Sisam said.
It was also important to physically check your vehicle was locked and not rely on the remote, he said.
