Woodside Special Care Centre is making a birthday appeal to the public to support their winter food drive. The Rondebosch East-based non-profit that takes care of 85 intellectually disabled adults and children, as well as people with reduced mobility, is turning 49 this month and is asking the public to help put food on the table for the residents. Woodside fundraising manager Zelda Davis said they have lost many donors over the years due to the high cost of living. “This means we have to purchase most of our food,” she said. Ms Davis said while they do get support from the provincial Department of Health and Wellness and the provincial Department of Social Services, it is not enough to support the day-to-day running of the centre.
Woodside is looking for non-perishable tin foods that can help stock up their cupboards during winter. If anyone would like to support Woodside in their birthday month they can email Ms Davis on fundraiser@woodside.org.za or call 082 419 8398.
