Newlands singer, Gabe Liddle is making waves on this foreign music market and has now released his first ever music single, Island, last month.
Liddle, 21, is in Savona, Italy, currently in production working on his very first album, Island which is on schedule to be released in September.
“The project is deeply personal, built around real experiences and the journey of growth I’ve gone through since leaving home and having the chance to travel. The album will feature eight tracks, each reflecting a different moment or emotion along that path,” he says.
Liddle has always been interested in following music as his passion. He was part of the choir from junior to high school and he went to the South African College Schools (SACS) where he was part of their music program.
“Singing became something I couldn’t go a day without and that passion is what led me to take music to the next level,” he said.
His passion for music took him to London after he matriculated, where he was in search of “inspiration.”
“I first picked up the guitar during the Covid lockdowns, and from there, my journey truly began, fueled by a growing curiosity and a love for exploring different genres of music,” he said.
Liddle would work as a gardener in London, where he would start working on his songwriting. His big break came when he went on holiday in Noli, Italy, and a friend of his convinced her acquaintance to allow him to open for a famous guitarist by playing three songs.
“I agreed because I love performing, but what happened next was unbelievable. Several well-known figures from the Italian music scene were in the audience, and they really liked my voice and unique singing style.,” he said.
Since then he had performed at several locations in Italy; he played at a private venue in Portugal; he performed at a piano bar in Marrakech, Morocco and his manager is currently organising him United Kingdom tour dates.
In his young music career, he says playing in countries where he doesn't speak the language is a powerful reminder that music is a language of its own.
“There’s something unspoken yet deeply understood in melody and rhythm, a connection that goes beyond words, even when our tastes aren't the same,” he said.
In his very first single, Island, Liddle feels a strong connection to the song.
“It was the first original I ever finished, and it marked the beginning of my journey into music as something real and serious,” he said.
Liddle would like to return to South Africa and perform for a local audience.
“My manager is currently in contact with several artistic directors there, and I’m really hopeful that some opportunities will materialize. I would love to perform in the big cities and, most importantly, give back to my country through my music,” he said.
Currently Liddle’s Island song is available on all streaming platforms which includes, Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, YouTube Music, Instagram, and more.
