Home side Villager RFC beat Far South rivals, False Bay RFC 36-12 in a  highly anticipated Top Five WPFRU Super League A clash, at Brookside, in Claremont, on Saturday. The half time score was 13-12.

Before the encounter kicked off, the teams gathered for a moment’s silence to honour club members who had recently passed. The most recent was Brad Bing, founder of Sporting Chance, a sports development organisation.

“Saturday was nothing short of exceptional,” said Villager committee member Patrick Maile. “The competition on the field was fierce and unrelenting – as it should be. Yet off the field, generations of players met with mutual respect, handshakes, and shared stories. That’s the spirit of club rugby at its best,” he said.

“Saturday brought record crowds through our gates. Together, we witnessed a day that reminded us all why club rugby is so special – where camaraderie and competition collide in the best of ways.”

FRIENDSHIP: Saturday's Super League A lash between Villager and False Bay made for a perfect advert for club rugby - fiercely competitive on the field, forging friendships of the field.

The Brooksiders opened the scoring after left wing Thoubaan Gabriels soared up the narrow side near the touchline to score in the corner.

False Bay, stung but not shocked, levelled the scores with a try off a lineout by prop Nazier Nazaar, with flyhalf Ewan Adams converting to give his team the lead. The running game of the Bay looked as if it may work, but it was countered by the structure of the Villager defence

Fullback Jandré Grobler regained the lead for Villager with the first of his three penalties, a lead forfeited when Adams charged a kick down, gathered and streaked past defences for a try, which he converted to set the tone for the rest of the match that saw Villager emerge victorious after 80 relentless minutes
