VOB Macaw was determined to cap off their season with a statement, and winning the Cape Town Baseball Federation's Major League Play-offs provided the perfect ending to their 2024/2025 campaign.
VOB Macaw burst onto the scene with a blazing start, topping the Major League standings for over a month.
They secured 15 wins in 21 matches, ultimately finishing fourth in the league.
Along the way, they claimed a crucial victory over eventual champions Bothasig Knights, though the Knights got their revenge in the return fixture in February.
VOB faced Bothasig again in the Play-off semi-finals, this time, winning in both semi-finals, to avoid a third semi-final play-off last week.
The team from Chukker Road delivered a dominant performance to book their spot in the final against Bellville Tygers, who edged out Athlone Athletics in two of their three semi-final clashes last week.
Under the guidance of coach Kevin Johnson and coach Jody Burch, VOB Macaw beat Bellville Tygers 8-1 at PP Smit in Bellville, on Saturday, March 22. They won 11-5 at Chukker Road in Lansdowne, on Sunday, March 23, to be crowned the new Major League Play-off Champions.
"The final was played in great spirit and at a good level. Something baseball and its supporters have been longing for. At VOB, it is a matter of taking this and building a winning culture on and off the field," said Burch.
