Kasi Invitational Games ignite basketball spirit in Gugulethu

Gugulethu Hustlers hosted the Kasi Invitational Games at the Gugulethu sports complex on Sunday, January 19.

The games are a set of friendly basketball matches played by teams from all over the city on Sundays. Each week sees different sets of clubs competing against each other.

This past Sunday, five teams took to the court, including Gugs Hustlers, the Cape Town Sharks, Pride Basketball Club, Khaltsha Stars and the Gladiators.

In the men’s division, Gugs Hustlers and the Cape Town Sharks left the crowd in awe with the skill and competitiveness of their match, leaving the crowd wanting more, after a 47-46 scoreline to the Sharks.

The Sharks also played to a 66-28 win against the Gladiators.

In the women’s division, Khaltsha Stars had a dominant display on the court. They beat the Sharks 40-15, followed by a 29-6 win against Pride Basketball Club.

Pride and Sharks played to a 29-28 scoreline, in favour of Pride.

The action continues this coming Sunday, January 26, at the Gugulethu sports complex.

Crossroads and Delft men’s teams will set the mood in the opening match at noon, followed by Khaltsha Stars and CPUT at 1pm.

Pride and Cape Waves Basketball Club will get under way at 2pm, followed by a female humdinger between Khaltsha Stars and Mbekweni Shaq Squad at 3pm.

The final match-up will feature the host team, Gugulethu Hustlers, taking on the Shaq Squad men’s team, with tip-off scheduled for 4pm.
